Frequently Asked Questions

1) What’s the first step? I’ve never hired a freelance editor before.

I like to start with an initial free consultation, during which we’ll discuss your project scope, payment schedule, and time frames—this will be the starting point for any project, large or small. During this conversation it becomes apparent if we have a possible fit between my skills and your particular needs before we proceed to the next step.

2) How do you charge—by the hour or do you offer a flat fee ?

I have been known to use either option depending on the project scope, deadline, and budgetary limits.  I will say that often, an hourly-based project fee can add up more quickly than most realize because phone calls, possible research, brainstorming sessions, revisions, and meetings will all be tracked time-wise and considered billable. Because of this, most people choose the flat fee payment.

3) Is there some sort of deposit to retain services?

Yes—I require a 30 percent deposit upfront, and the remainder will by due within ten days of the project’s completion. This is required because I consider a deposit a show of good faith, and it lets me know you are serious about pursuing a professional business relationship.

4) I live in another country. Can I still use your services?

Absolutely. I work with people from all over the world.  As long as you have a valid credit card or PayPal account and speak understandable English, you can use my services.
